About University of Birmingham

People walking on a leafy path on campus

University of Birmingham is nestled in a leafy parkland setting with a campus that boasts its own train station. Our University grew out of the radical vision of our first Chancellor, Joseph Chamberlain. Founded in 1900, Birmingham represented a new model for Higher Education. We were England’s first civic university, a place where students from all backgrounds were accepted on an equal basis. More than 100 years on, our Birmingham campus has grown to 672 acres, and we also now have a campus in Dubai. Each year, we welcome more than 30,000 students from across the world. Our size has changed, but our civic commitment has not.

How to find us

University of Birmingham campus is located 2 miles from Birmingham city centre and has its own train station with regular trains taking just 7-minutes from Birmingham New Street Station. Birmingham’s central position in the United Kingdom makes it easily accessible from most of the country with trains from London running to both Birmingham New Street Station and Birmingham Moor Street Station regularly.

TriboUK 2025 will be held at the School of Chemical Engineering in the heart of the University of Birmingham Edgbaston Campus. With over 100 members of staff and over £10 million per annum in research income, the School of Chemical Engineering is one of the oldest and largest Chemical Engineering departments in the United Kingdom. We look forward to welcoming you to the school in June for TriboUK 2025.
